Courses – Spring 2025 / Art and Music / ARCHITECTURE: FUNCTION, DESIGN, AND STRUCTURE

Coordinators: Sol Makon, Victor Brenner

In this class we will discuss architecture and design.

How much do we appreciate or even acknowledge buildings, those that we pass by daily, or even live in? Can we comprehend all the stages that went into a building’s construction?

Architecture represents the history, culture, and values of a society. It shapes human behavior and promotes social interaction. Among its functions, building design creates a living space.

We will explore various subjects in the fields of architecture and design, including architectural styles (Brutalism), architects (Frank Lloyd Wright) and building structures (iconic buildings in New York City).
