Courses – Spring 2025 / Literature / CRIME AND PUNISHMENT
Coordinators: Sheryl Harawitz, Patricia Geehr, Andrea Irvine, Ellie Schaffer
In this study group, we shall plunge headlong into the dark labyrinthine corridors of the human soul as laid bare by Fyodor Dostoevsky in Crime and Punishment.
Here, the mind of Raskolnikov, torn between grandeur and despair, beckons us to witness the torment of a man who dares to test the limits of morality. Through careful examination of the text, we will question, as Raskolnikov does, the very nature of justice, and whether it is possible to escape the consequences of one’s deeds.
This course is not merely a reading, it is a descent, a confrontation with the abyss within us all. Join us as we collectively shed some light on this dark descent.
