The late 19th and 20th and 21st centuries in the world of theatre spawned many distinguished playwrights of dramatic works that have garnered prestigious awards and are performed around the world.

This course covers a sampling of important English, Irish and American playwrights of this era — both women and men — addressing questions such as: What makes their work so good and even timeless? What are the characteristics of their writing style and their sources of inspiration and influence? How were they critiqued? With talks, discussions, and multimedia, you will learn about their lives and work, both known or gaining recognition today.
